Barry at Beamish

Teaching the Living Museum of the North

Beamish is a world famous museum telling the story of the people of North East England during the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian periods.  Barry has recently spent a week at the museum, near Newcastle upon Tyne, working with their costume department.  The Beamish team spend their time lovingly recreating period costumes for their museum guides and demonstrators.

Barry spent his time demonstrating his skills on traditional and speed tailoring methods which were then put to good use making various styles of costumes, the objective being to produce authentic looking costumes using both modern and traditional skills.  It was a fantastic week for everyone to share their skills and enjoy a fun learning experience.

Visit the fantastic Beamish website at www.beamish.org.uk to find out more about the museum.  There is also lots of information on special events being held in the near future.  You can also follow them on Twitter on @Beamish_Museum

Fancy learning the same?  Barry runs both Speed Tailoring and Traditional Tailoring workshops in Southampton and is planning to extend this to the Cornwall workshops later this year.  Have a look at our course list to find out more information.
